As if the transition to a new studio wasn’t enough to make fans a bit skeptical regarding the upcoming Batman: Arkham Origins game, we now can add into the mix rumors of multiplayer. According to Kotaku, they have heard from multiple sources that this newest installment in the Arkham franchise will have at least one multiplayer mode. Now Kotaku did try to confirm this information, and were able to confirm with a second source that the game will have multiplayer, but was unable to confirm the specifics they were told by the other source.

So what are those specifics exactly, according to the tipster, the multiplayer aspect of the game possibly put players in the role of a member of the Joker, or Bane’s gang and task them with taking down Batman and Robin, other villains rumored to be involved in the multiplayer are Killer Croc, Deadshot, Firefly, Black Mask, Deathstroke, and some kind of Electroman character according to Kotaku’s tipster. Of course when reached out to for a comment Warner Bros remained mute so it is possible that this is just (hopefully) a rumor or a concept that gets the axe as games in the Arkham franchise have done just fine without the addition of multiplayer.

Warner Bros is already taking a big chance by allowing a relatively new studio take the development reigns from Rocksteady, the studio behind Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City adding in what sounds like a forced multiplayer aspect to the game may not be their brightest idea. Then again, I could just be a bitter fan boy that feels multiplayer has no place in the Arkham franchise, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I may not be alone in that thought.
