What is Fear? If not but a deep seated emotion, it is our minds delving into dark corners where we find our worst demons. Fear comes in many shapes from a small spider to clowns that somehow delight one set while instilling a deep seated hate in others. Video games have a unique ability to ramp fear up with little or no effort. Isolated inside a moment nothing else matters but getting to a safe space where you feel like no harm can be done. Heartbeats quicken your hands tighten around the controller as your palms sweat, your breathing shallows. Almost as if something from the other side of the screen will actually hear your pleas of fright. In a moments notice the music comes creeping into your ears, as you keep focused on trying to find that solace in a cut scene. Fear has been dialed to eleven but the developers have just baited you into believing something was going to happen. When fear is least expected is when fear takes hold of your calm and thrashes it around like a rag doll.
E3 2017 Bethesda Softworks has dipped consumers back into the fear, on stage they released a new trailer for Evil Within 2. Inside a 3 minute span we are delved into a sea of white, we are dragged to the brink of madness, watch as blood turns to roses. Bethesda somehow took the small amount of time and didn’t scare viewers but what they did do is set up the horror feel to Evil Within 2. If you only happened to catch it once during the reveal do yourself a favor and go watch the trailer through a few more times. Each time I watched the trailer it seemed that different pieces of the fear came out. In my opinion it was a well orchestrated piece that gives just enough to make horror fans and non horror fans alike excited as to what Evil Within 2 will offer.
It will launch October 13 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
